lightontherealvirtuesoffuzzylogicapplications,andsomedevelopmentsinmachine
computationhavemadecertainfeaturesoffuzzylogicmuchmoreusefulthaninthepast.In
fact,itwouldbefairtostatethatsomedevelopmentsinfuzzysystemsarequitecompetitive
withother,linearalgebra-basedmethodsintermsofcomputationalspeedandassociated
accuracy.Towaiteightyearstopublishthissecondeditionhasbeen,perhaps,toolong.
Ontheotherhand,thetechnologycontinuestomovesofastthatoneisoftencaughtin
thatuncomfortablemiddle-groundnotwantingtomissanotherimportantdevelopmentthat
couldbeincludedinthebook.Thepressuresofacademiaandtherealitiesoflifeseemto
interveneatthemostunexpectedtimes,butnowseemsthebesttimeforthissecondedition.
Thesecondeditionofthistexthasbeenonthedrawingboardforquitesometime.
Sincethefirsteditionwaspublished,in1995,thetechnologyoffuzzysettheoryand
itsapplicationtosystems,usingfuzzylogic,hasmovedrapidly.Developmentsinother

thatuncomfortablemiddle-groundnotwantingtomissanotherimportantdevelopmentthat
couldbeincludedinthebook.Thepressuresofacademiaandtherealitiesoflifeseemto
interveneatthemostunexpectedtimes,butnowseemsthebesttimeforthissecondedition.
