Permasalahan yang penting dalam dunia teknologi informasi adalah bagaimana cara mengolah data dari informasi-infomasi yang semakin besar dan kompleks, sehingga lebih cepat, mudah, aman, dan efisien baik dalam proses penyimpanannya maupun transfer data. Salah satu pendekatan untuk masalah penyimpanan dan pertukaran data adalah melakukan kompresi file. Beberapa alasan yang sangat signifikan seperti keterbatasan hard disk yang digunakan, mobilitas dari file-file tersebut yang sangat tinggi, sehingga jika file-file tersebut dapat terkompresi, file-file tersebut dapat dipindah-pindahkan dari satu tempat ke tempat lainnya atau dapat dikirim ke siapapun yang membutuhkan atau memerlukannya dengan cepat dan mudah. Dengan adanya permasalahan diatas maka penulis mencoba melakukan penelitian yang bertujuan untuk membandingkan aplikasi kompresi data yang menggunakan Software WinZip dan WinRar. Tujuannya adalah software mana yang layak untuk digunakan dan file apa saja hasil kompresi yang dapat mengurangi kafasitas file menjadi lebih kecil. Dengan hasil perbandingannya ini nantinya pengguna (peneliti) dapat menentukan software mana yang layak untuk digunakan baik bagi peneliti sendiri maupun bagi yang membaca skripsi ini.
Deskripsi Alternatif :Important problems in information world technology is how to process data from information which is ever greater and complex, so that quicker, easy, safe, and good efficient in process of the storage and also transfer of data. One of approach for problem laid up and transfer of data is do file compression. Some a real reasons signifikan like limitation of hard disk applied, mobility from the files is a real height, so that if the files can be compression, the files can be shifted about out of one places to other place or clear to send to any person who requires or requires it is swiftly and easy. With existence of problems to hence writer to try does research with aim to compare the application of data compression using Software WinZip and WinRar. Its aim is software which that reasonable to be utilized and yielding whatever file compression which can reduce kafasitas file becomes smaller. With its compare result this following its user (researcher) can determine software which that reasonable to be utilized good for own researcher and also for one reads this skipsi.
