The political economy model has been successfully used to predict adoption of

controversial or crisis-prone policies. In contrast, this article assesses the model’s

utility in relation to adoption rates of three mundane policy domains that govern

everyday life. Given the addition of interactive terms, the model produced a variety of

results. The most successful application was in the policy domain of wills, estates, and

trusts where 63 percent of the variance was explained. The least satisfactory results

were encountered in the area of commercial transaction policy where only 21 percent

of the variance was explained. Between these two extremes, the model explained 39

percent of the variance in adoption rates of judicial organization policy.
